Child obesity and diabetes

A nine-month study by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has been launched aimed at helping distinguish between types of diabetes in children. It is hoped that the findings will lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment.

Hyperactivity has risen

January 2005

The Department of Health have issued figures that show at least 345,000 children between the ages of 6 and 16 officially suffer from the hyperactivity disorder ADHD. The number prescribed Ritilin has increased dramatically. The Health Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman MP in releasing the figures said that treatment for ADHD should not rely on medication alone.

Youth Green Paper delayed

January 2005

The publication of the youth green paper has been delayed until February and is expected to be published at the same time as the Russell Commission report on youth volunteering.
